"The Wrecking Crew"

A Film by Denny Tedesco

Collectively, their roster of hit songs is unmatched in the recording industry, numbering into the hundreds and spanning decades. They've been significantly instrumental (pun fully indended) in building the rise to stardom for a varied list of popular artists from The Beach Boys to Frank (and Nancy) Sinatra; from The 5th Dimension to Sam Cooke; from The Carpenters to Cher. They'd crafted some of pop music's most timeless and recognizable songs. And yet, outside the industry, few could name a single member.  They are "The Wrecking Crew."

When a hit record was the desired result, there were no others to consider but "The Wrecking Crew," a group of professional session musicians for hire who, as the film unveils, lent far more to these hit songs than mere instrumentation.

Director/Writer Denny Tedesco's chronicle of pop music's heyday delves back to the late 50s, 60s and 70s... eras of all-night recording sessions in cramped, smoke-filled rooms, when real musicianship was not only appreciated, it was demanded. Stocked with rare, historical footage and interviews with the group’s members, plus testimonials from music giants Dick Clark, Herb Alpert, Glen Campbell, Cher, Brian Wilson, Jimmy Webb, Gary Lewis and many more.

"The Wrecking Crew" film is an essential document of contemporary pop history, and a must-see for anyone who's ever collected music, lived off pop radio or picked up an instrument.

"Wages of Spin"

The Wages of Spin chronicles The Philadelphia Music Scene from 1952 thru 1963. The film focuses primarily on Dick Clark, Bandstand, The Teen Idols and Payola. This is the first honest, comprehensive look at the inner workings of The Music Industry during this time frame. The music industry was by no means a paragon of American business ethics. Underhanded practices, rife with conflicts of interest, were the standard for the day. Payola! As the dirty business of making hits and selling records went on everyone had their hands out. Talent was a secondary consideration in the system of graft and legalized corruption that prevailed at the time

"All is never as it seems. In 1960, Rock and Roll was not the teenage menace that parents feared. And Dick Clark was not the nice young man that teenagers believed. Wages of Spin tells the tale that young musicians featured on Bandstand wouldn't dare share, until now. This documentary is a compelling start to a long overdue correction of history. Prepare to have your illusions shattered."

Rollye James, Radio Personality

The documentary features interviews with: Chubby Checker, Fabian, Frankie Avalon, Connie Francis, Mike Love and Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys, Bob Marcucci, Charlie Gracie, Dick Richards (Bill Haley's Comets), Len Barry, Jerry Gross and Mark Stevens (Dovells), Frank Maffei and Joe Terry (Danny and The Juniors), Stephen Caldwell (The Orlons), Jerry Blavat, Ed Hurst, Bill Webber, Sally Starr, Dave Appell, Weldon McDougal (Larks), Ron Joseph, John Carlton, Pete Cozzi, The Bandstand Dancers and many others.

1974 — On the Road with The Beach Boys

Never before had cameras been allowed into the very private world of the touring Beach Boys quite like this — until now. This exclusive footage was shot using the very first portable video camera (called a Portapak) by UCLA graduate filmmaker and former Beach Boys musician Billy Hinsche, who takes you on a whirlwind romp through several days and nights of being up-close-and-personal with “you are there” scenes of life on the road with the group Rolling Stone magazine called “Band of the Year” for 1974.

Filmed on location during the April and May tours of 1974, you'll hear conversations among the band members (sometimes with the aid of subtitles so you don't miss a single word), be a part of the backstage shenanigans, listen in on plans for tour logistics and strategy, have a ringside seat at the hysterical madcap backgammon game called “The Match” (originally released as part of Billy's film The Road Well Traveled and unavailable for many years), and take a ride in the cockpit of the Beach Boys' private plane, where you will watch the takeoff sitting in the jump seat of the charter aircraft.
